Modify Tools

Modifiers are a way of driving variability in your design - either with topology (in the Stochastic tool or Vector Field tool) or with shape (with the Variable Thickener.) The 'Modifiers' tool allows you to do so by adding an array of point modifiers and vector modifiers. Point modifiers will later be used to apply a variable to it. Vector modifiers can be used to apply vectors for the Vector Field Lattice. Points can be added by left clicking in the view port, and the properties of each point such as range and effect can be changed. In Element Free, thickening is your only variable. In Element Pro, you have a whole bunch of other fun options to work with.

Points

Select object

Select an object on which to apply the modifiers.

place points

Create new modifier points by left clicking positions on the object in the 3D view. You can later edit the location of the modifier point by clicking on the point in the list and then either dragging the point in the 3D view or by manually setting its position using the text boxes.

point Position

Set XYZ coordinates of each point.

Range

Set the range of a point which corresponds to the x-axis on the graph above.

dropoff graph

This graph will determine the effect of modifier points across a range. The x-axis represents the range while the y-axis represents the intensity. To modify the graph, left click to add a new point to it. Left click and drag to move these points and right click
to remove them.

curve type

Set curve interpolation.

APPLY & CLOSE / OK

Apply the changes using Apply and then exit the tool using Close, or just click OK to apply and exit

Vectors

SELECT surface

Select an object on which to apply the vectors.

place vectors

Create new modifier points by left clicking positions on the object in the 3D view.

vector angle

Set the angle of each vector by inputing a value or using the slider. The default angle is parallel to the surface and the slider allows for 360 degree rotation on that plane.

APPLY & CLOSE / OK

Apply the changes using Apply and then exit the tool using Close, or just click OK to apply and exit
